No money or time for a holiday? Books can take you away from it all

Of course we all wish we could jaunt off to romantic locations for a little holiday every weekend, but for most of us this is unrealistic. We all have jobs, spouses, kids, commitments or schedules dominating our lives (or all of the above). For most of us there is no time or luxury to take off to a bed and breakfast in Cardiff for the weekend. Books are wonderful because they allow you to escape from the drudgery or stress of your daily life, albeit briefly, without leaving your home or spending a fortune. Sometimes reading can even be more relaxing than a weekend at a lovely hotel in Cardiff simply because you don't have the stress of packing, arranging for a childminder, and transporting yourself to and from your holiday destination in a short period of time. Novels have the ability to take us to another world, let us glimpse someone else's joy or pain and forget our own for a moment. Even non-fiction can distract us from our own problems and inner-turmoil.

Books, especially mystery novels, science fiction novels and fantasy novels have the ability to paint a picture for us of worlds we will never see, or most likely never see. You may be the lucky bloke who is a private detective and gets to stay at a hotel in Cardiff year round while you work undercover. Even then, reading a traditional romance novel would be a similar escape to a different life for a person in that position. Books are also so great because you can pick them up at any time and even if you only read a few pages it can help you to unwind and relax. Whether you read on your way home on the bus, in the morning before work, before going to sleep, or on the weekends; reading is an easy way to get away from it all quickly and simply. Don't get me wrong, please do save up and treat yourself to a holiday weekend (or week) in a lovely bed and breakfast in Cardiff, or wherever your heart desires; but don't forget that books can help keep you save and get you through from holiday to holiday. To help make the most of your reading experience, it is a nice idea to set up a place in your house that is conducive to reading.

You want to make sure you have a comfortable chair, sofa, bed or hammock and adequate lighting so that you don't strain your eyes. Turn off the phone even and let yourself slip completely into another world. Don't forget to take good books with you when you actually get to take your holiday to the luxury hotel in Cardiff. By this point you'll be hooked. There's nothing better than settling into a booth at a Welsh pub with a frothy mug of ale and a good novel.
